This site hopes to provide information on the genetic and ancestral origins of the R-L165 sub-group (Cluster One) of the R-L165 Project http://www.familytreedna.com/public/R-L165Project/default.aspx?section=yresults

The  genetic signature of Cluster One is rather unusual and distinct and thus far confined to the islands of Jura, Lismore, Skye, Barra and the Bishop Isles on the west coast of Scotland along with Caithness, Sutherland, and Morayshire on the Scottish mainland.

To complement the DNA results the site aims to provide some historical and geographical context.

The administrators of the Clan Donald DNA project have named the cluster ‘R1b1a2 Olive subgroup’ as a means to identify it as a distinct genetic lineage and has no other significance.  Members of the group can also be found in the Barra R1b1 group of the MacNeil DNA project who share the same haplotype.
